Kingdom People
The Bishop of Worcester convened a group - 20/20 Vision group - to think about how churches can prepare for the future. General problems for most churches include lack of people, lack of young people, lack of funds etc. The focus for many churches then can issues connected with survival or maintenance. The 20/20 group have suggested that this is not what Jesus had in mind - his life and work focussed on the Reign/Kingdom of God being felt on Earth.
Churches in the Diocese are being asked to give time to considering what it means for them to be people of the Kingdom = how Jesus' priorities are reflected in their own life.
PCC members split into small groups and talked about some of the questions raised by four projects portrayed in postcards produced by the 20/20 group. They talked about what this parish would put on a postcard. People need encouragement to think about what Church is really for.
Time was spent with cards and we were asked to discuss, in small groups, projects associated with our church that we would put on a card - e.g. Traidcraft, Messy Church, Advent Meals, Coffee Shop.
Rob suggested possibility of children in the parish receiving New Testaments to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
It has been decided that statutory Church fees will be frozen for next year. Organist fees will increase weddings; organist and verger fees increase for funerals.
To be discussed later after James Hickson and Michael Foster have met: the issues surrounding what happens to the Organist's fee when a couple do not want one of the parish churches' organist to play at the marriage service.
