PCC Meeting - March 2010

Highlights from the PCC meeting held on 18th March 2010

Matters arising not already on the agenda

  1. Nothing further to add.

St Anne's Building

(i) Quinquennial work
As detailed in the Agenda:
The wood for the new loft walk-way will be delivered on Monday 22nd March and it will take about a month to complete the south-side aisle. All the benches from the south-side balcony to the north-side balcony will be moved - the wood will be stored on the south-side balcony. We will also use the balcony as a workshop. Both balconies will be out of use from 22nd March to say the mid to end of April.
Note the new rainwater goods, cleaned exterior of windows and pigeon protection

Work is not quite complete. Water goods need redesign on South side. Walkway may be rotten. Work on tower can follow when road-works finish.
Report for St Leonard's is now being studied to clarify action required.

(ii) Feedback from re-ordering group : meeting with Andrew Mottram 21st March.
List of objectives and asset management plans were distributed. After clarification and discussion both were agreed.

(iii) Signage.
Architect had rather surprisingly objected to drawings but application for faculty has now been submitted. Cost ~ £7k.

Lent, Holy Week and Easter
In hand, proceeding as planned.

Graffiti Art at St Anne's
Two pieces of graffiti art have been produced by Sunday Gang members: they will be installed shortly and displayed over Easter.

Festival Services in October
Proposals are: Latin American Mass for Sunday 17th October and an evening of Elvis Presley gospel music as an evensong special.

Churchyard Update
A charity group assisted in clearing right hand side last year. Some repairs needed to wall. Reminder about value of appropriate timing of grass cutting in increasing biodiversity.

Parish Fete Update
Cate has taken over as chair of Fete committee. She proposed more family orientated activities with half of proceeds to be given to Community Transport and half to Parish events for children: 7th August, 12-4.00. Agreed.

Any other business

  1. Accounts
Distributed now for formal consideration at AGM. Investments have improved slightly. £5k per month is required for parish share and Michael proposed delaying payment. Discussion of pros and cons ensued with some disquiet expressed. Majority agreed to back Michael having some flexibility provided he discussed issue with Diocese.
  2. Vulnerable Adults
Diocese requires us to adopt the House of Bishops Policy on safeguarding vulnerable adults and to create a policy for our parish which should be approved on an annual basis. Ron Capell agreed to be our nominated person. Unanimous agreement that we adopt the policy and that Ron is our nominated person.
  3. Parish Year Book
Peter indicated that this would be available the following Sunday.
  4. Planned Giving Secretary
Eric Rowland has indicated that he wishes to relinquish this role. Britta Flegg is willing to take over. Brian will write letter of thanks to Eric.

Date of Next PCC meeting : Thursday 20th May 2010, 7.30pm at St Anne's.
