PCC Meeting - September 2009


Highlights from the PCC meeting held on 24th September 2009

Matters arising not already on the agenda

  1. Parish Weekend
    No further issues to raise.
  2. Bishop's Certificate
    This starts next week.

Lay Chair of PCC
Paul Warnett was proposed for position. Agreed.

St George's Hall Update
The redevelopment is proposed to involve the medical centre, library and St George's Hall (i.e. now excluding fire station). Advantage West Midlands will provide significant funding if a suitable managing agent is found to run the hall. Paul Warnett clarified present state of proposals.

Signage and Notice board
Martin Flegg attended to advise and lead discussion. Architect has suggested that design reflects some architectural features of the church. Area must be less than 1.2m2 to avoid need for planning permission. Explanatory notes and plans were distributed and a model was displayed Extensive discussion ensued. Consensus was for wording St Anne's Bewdley with no further logo and orientation as in top right option in notes provided.

Wribbenhall & Bewdley 2010 - patterns of worship - Morning Worship at St Anne's
Proposals had been distributed at previous PCC meeting. Consensus was to keep present service times for Sunday morning meaning 9.30 services at St Anne's and at All Saints (Suggestion B). This would infer Eucharist at St Anne's twice per month. Keith suggested that next year from around Advent we try an interim arrangement of one service each month at St Anne's not being the Eucharist. This would ideally be on days when the Eucharist was being celebrated at St Leonard's (and indeed at All Saints) – but this cannot be guaranteed. General discussion ensued of related issues. There was general support for suggested interim arrangement.

Week of Guided Prayer
This had gone well, with 21 people attending, representing a good ecumenical mix. Thanks were extended to Mark Moreton.

Ribbesford Car Park & Drive
Water board have installed new mains and owner of pond has installed new drainage. Countryside Commission proposals did not include access lane to church but they could give us prices for possible work. General discussion ensued regarding ownership and resurfacing of car parking area. It was agreed to delegate a decision to the standing committee when costs were known.

Any other business

  1. Parish Fete
    This is an important tradition that also makes money: about £1,500 this year. Cate proposed that a small marquee is purchased for around £250. Some of cost could be recouped by subsequent hiring out. Proposal agreed.
  2. Cleaning at St Anne's
    Present arrangements were felt to be inadequate both regarding equipment and time available. Cate will give written suggestions to the standing committee, liaising with Michael who will clarify finances.
  3. No Barriers Award
    Cate had accepted an award for services to people with disabilities following the work experience Alex had served at St Anne's.
