Highlights from the PCC meeting held on 20th November 2008

Signage for St Anne's
Martin Flegg has kindly taken on task of finding acceptable new designs.

Eco-congregations
Jane Moreton will hold post-service meeting to start process of sharing expertise regarding personal approaches to a greener lifestyle. Brian encouraged all PCC members to consider other initiatives that they would like to develop.

Islam Bible Studies
more on this soon!

Magic Club
Had just begun = and gone well - lasting 4 weeks in total.

Work with Young People
Joe reported that Monday evening sessions for high school aged children had started. Around 11 young people attended. Aim is to build relationships and friendships, then more spiritual aspects could follow. Discussion widened to Youth Cafe : at present involvement of churches was not envisaged.

Budget and Response to Funding Programme
Eric Rowland reports increase of ~£1700 in planned giving: encouraging but short of what is needed e.g. for building work.

Quinquennial Reports
St Anne's
Architect (Robert Kilgour) attended Standing Committee meeting. It was agreed that he be retained as clerk of works for the priority work identified (improved rainwater provision, pigeon proofing, improved loft access and insulation etc.). He has prepared a letter of agreement with projected cost of £50k (£32k plus fees and VAT). Possibility of grants was discussed: Michael will approach English Heritage but he felt that a successful outcome was not likely as we had reserves to draw on. Details of work needed filed with minutes.
Ribbesford visit still to be made.
St Andrew's awaiting report.

2010, Bewdley and Wribbenhall
Deanery Synod has approved a reduction of clergy from 13 to 9 by 2010. Wribbenhall, Bewdley and Rock together would have 2 priests.

Fees for 2009
Keith circulated proposed revised fees applicable from 1st January 2009. Two errors in totals were noted: Burial £226 not £220 and of ashes £113 not £110. Bell ringing fees were clarified as £10 per rope for before or after a service and £20 per rope for both before and after a service.

Re-ordering St Anne's

  1. Report from Richard Giles. Suggestions include more provision for social space. Proposals are to be written up with drawings to illustrate.
  2. Day out to see St Stephen Walbrook. This is a Georgian church in London that is viewed as having being sensitively and effectively reordered. Michael suggested 2 other visits: PCC accepted and he will organise.
  3. Parish Weekend. Richard suggested Parish weekend: Keith invited help from 2-3 people to help organise.

Jazz Mass - Art Exhibition
These were very well received. PCC thanked Keith for his inspired suggestion.

Advent & Christmas
Details had been circulated. Noted that Midnight Mass would be at Ribbesford.

Any other business

  1. Joe reported on progress in mapping Ribbesford churchyard. In cooperation with Bewdley Historical Research Group, survey details were being overlaid onto the map. Thanks were offered to Brita and Martin Flegg and to Nick Gould for work in digitising data. It was suggested that the records are made available via the Parish website.
  2. Susan reported back from Deanery Synod meetings. Her notes are included with the minutes.

Date of Next meeting: Thursday 22nd Jan 2009, 7.30pm (future meetings will generally be on 3rd Thursdays: majority in favour of St Anne's for venue)
