PCC Meeting - July 2008

Highlights from the PCC meeting held on 3rd July 2008

Signage for St Anne's
All necessary paperwork has been completed and submitted to DAC: decision to be made at meeting on 29th July.

Quinquennial
Completed at St Leonard's and St Anne's.
Survey of St Andrew's was postponed from 30/06/08; Brian Wood and Keith to follow up if new date is not forthcoming soon.

Eco-congregations
Dianne Taylor and Brian Smith outlined plans for St Leonard's churchyard. Diane will draw up management plan with mowing schedule for different areas (e.g. short for visual amenity and access, spring/summer meadows with delayed cutting, permanent long grass, retention of valuable species like ivy, bramble, nettles where appropriate), compost bins, water butts, posters etc. to explain). Species list for flora exists: help with fauna lists would be welcome. Feedback box suggested for church: perhaps record book/board for species eventually.

Keith has meeting with David Julian on July 11th : to advise on energy use at St Anne's.

Jane Bradley has agreed to revive garden at NW corner of St Anne's.

PCC reminded of 3 agreed priorities:
Church Land
Church Buildings
Personal Lifestyles

All PCC members again urged to consider how they might contribute: suggestions to Keith/Brian.

Freecycle: use is encouraged: e.g. for items not acceptable to charity shops. On his return, Brian will offer service for those without computer access and publicise appropriately.

Sunday parking
Head of Property and Operational Services WFDC has deemed present arrangements "unofficial" and reaffirmed that payment must be made from 3rd August onwards. Notices will be placed in Network. Status of land (including parking bays) at W end of church queried: was this church land?

Budget for 2009
Keith would still welcome volunteers for working party meeting to be convened middle of August.

Composition of PCC
it was noted that St Leonard's should ideally be served by 2 churchwardens.

Evensong - letter from Mike Robinson
Letter from Mike read to meeting: inviting PCC to review programme for evening prayer services at St Leonard's. Numbers attending are decreasing and are usually in single figures. Should present arrangement continue for the relatively few who do attend because this is what they do want or should we consider alternatives that might better serve needs? After extensive discussion, agreed:

  • to continue this season and continue through April, May, June 2009 with subsequent review of provision in July 2009 PCC meeting
  • sung evensong whenever numbers were sufficient: spoken if not
  • any help with improved communication (e.g. Bridge distribution) would be welcome
  • Keith and Diane to liaise over posters for caravan sites etc.
  • leaflet drop around Easter detailing services in all churches in the parish

Any other business
Susan Price reminded us all about the Parish Fete at Buttonoak on 2nd August. Help is needed selling raffle tickets and supporting on the day.

Date of next meeting: PCC, 18th September, 7.30pm at Stan's Place.
